I am directed by the First Comissioner of His Majesty's Works, etc., to state, for the information of the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, that copy of a
letter (No. 4077/22) with enclosure addressed to the
Foreign Office by the Secretary of State for the Colonies under date of the 30th ultimo, has been
received in this Department.
2. The Board see no objection to the proposed erection of a building in the Yamen at Canton to accommodate Cadets from Hong Kong, Straits Settlements and Federated Lalay States, subject to suitable arrangements being made, but before taking action they will be glad to be favoured

with the views of the Secretary of State in the matter.
A letter of even date is being addressed on the subject to the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's
Treasury.
